While Jameson and Will were away from their apartment, celebrating Thanksgiving, a pipe behind their “kitchen sink” (but not really) burst. No one called them, and Will came home to quite the surprise.
I guess Jameson & Will are in for a remodeling adventure of some sort. I’m guessing it won’t be the kind we’ve had; I would assume a landlord would keep it cheap and, I hope, quick. Tie will tell.
This is really the tiny room off of the kitchen; for some reason that’s where they put the sink and some cabinets. This wall was where a small, bathroom-style sink and some cabinets were:

Here’s a gaping hole that is in the wall now … not too great for warmth!

This is the floor, and you can see that they had to remove some of the linoleum in the kitchen as well:

They also cut out a portion of the hallway carpet, so I suppose they’ll replace the entire hallway carpet:

The boys are hoping they don’t do anything about the wall between the cooking/fridge area and “sink room” because they like the wall with those molds having up:

I woke up this morning to more spotty and filmy dishes and glassware. Not only that, but I think the stainless steel of the dishwasher, as well as our stainless steel milk steamer, may be damaged. Is this a Maytag issue? I don’t even know how to tell! I’m currently running a cycle with no dishwashing liquid, but merely using vinegar. I’m hoping our glasses aren’t ruined, but I sure couldn’t get the film off when washing by hand. I think our new dishes may have also been damaged, but I guess I’ll wash some of those and see if they can be cleaned that way. The weird thing is that the dishwasher was great for a few washes and then started doing this. Ack! Maytag … help!!!
Things like this distress me. Probably more than they should. But having spent all that money on the washer, and having new dishes and glassware, I think I have a bit of a reason to be distressed.
In other news … what a great visit with Kelsey & Mel these past few days, and it was great that everyone could get together a few times.
Plus, aside from teaching for 2 1/2 hours today … reed making awaits. (I have a good amount oboing in the next six weeks, and I have to get reeds together now.)

Why is our brand new Maytag dishwasher not working? Please do tell!
There is a film on the bottom and sides of the dishwasher and on our dishes. I read your list of things that might be the problem and those really don’t apply. We’ll try different soap I guess. After that I guess I call you up and ask what’s up. We spent over $500, so this sure better not be a lemon!
Then again, maybe our environmentally friendly dish washing liquid doesn’t wash dishes. Hmmm.
PS We bought the dishwasher at Home Depot and you can see it here. Why doesn’t Maytag list that one? It looks like this one.

I just received my voucher to get into Disneyland for free on my birthday … too bad I can’t go on my birthday. :-(

Anthropologie sent me a really cute candle necklace for my birthday. How sweet is that?
Trouble is, the candle is broken.
Dear Anthropologie, is this an omen? Because I don’t believe in omens. So there.

I’m at the Toyota service center. I’m noticing a trend here; seems like they are finding things they need to mention to various customers … just little extras that need to be done. Hmmm. I wonder if they are in need of the money, or if all the cars truly do need extra work. (Yeah, I’ve been taught to be skeptical.)
That being said, I do love (if one can “love” a car) our Prius. (And the link takes you to the *new* one … wouldn’t mind getting that eventually if we opt for another Toyota when this one goes away.) It is not at all uncommon for us to average over 50 mpg. Pretty darn good, if you ask me!
This is gonna be one long day; Toyota at 7:00 AM, UCSC at 7:30 PM. And students in between.
Better busy than bored. I guess. :-)
Update
The woman in the chair next to me is making me nervous. She is sitting up straight, on the edge of the chair; I feel as if she is hovering over me … like maybe she wants to say something. But I don’t want to look up, for fear I’m wrong. But what if I know her? Maybe she’s just waiting to catch my eye. Hmmm.
Okay … I took a quick glance as she looked the other way. I don’t know her. She’s just hovering. Oh well.

I finally have my hour back. It was stolen from me quite some time ago. It made me angry. No one asked. They just took it. But it’s back now, so I will stop my grumping and be happy it’s here. :-)
It’s also November. And my favorite season of the year, too. Now all I need is some rain! (I did dream that it rained last night. That was nice.)
In other news … I made an exciting purchase yesterday: I bought a new dishwasher.
Okay, okay, maybe that’s not terribly thrilling, but we should have replaced the old one over a year ago and I’m looking forward to not having to rewash dishes. It’s the simple things for this simple girl, eh? Now if only all the other broken and ruined things in this house could be repaired. I really should start a list, yes? Let’s see …
- Family room carpet, walls, ceiling … all a mess.
- Living room wallpaper should be removed and the wall should be painted (unless it looks so bad I have to re-wallpaper).
- Washing machine leaks every time we use it.
- Hardwood floors … all in need of refinishing.
- Master bedroom carpet … in dire need of replacement.
- Other bedrooms’ carpets are also pretty much fried (last thing I’d change, though).
- BOTH bathrooms: tile is a mess (cracked or simply broken off), toilets not great, fans broken.
- House exterior is in need of paint. Badly.
- Yard. I need say nothing more about THAT. Right? (Anyone who has been here would strongly agree!)
Soooo … maybe we can choose one thing (bathroom fans, perhaps) at a time and get things fixed.
It could happen ….
Or perhaps we should move?! ;-)
