Jessica Bie(h)l

(I put the “h” there because that’s how I thought her name was spelled; I knew some Biehls in high school. Doesn’t it look nicer with an h?)

More precisely, if you Google Jessica Biel, you have a one-in-five chance of landing at a website that contains some sort of online threat: spyware, phishing, viruses, trojans, spam, and the like.

The rest of the list looks like this: Beyonce is in the second place, with “Beyonce ringtones” being a particularly dangerous term to search, Jennifer Aniston came in third place (don’t search for “Jennifer Aniston screensavers”), followed by Tom Brady, Jessica Simpson, Gisele Bundchen, Miley Cyrus, Megan Fox, Angelina Jolie, and Ashley Tisdale. Brad Pitt came in 10th place this year; sorry Brad, it looks like you’re getting old.

Looks like it’s still safe to google my name. Or yours.

Whew! ;-)

Aw Rats

I could have saved $360 on the family room furniture if I’d waited until now to order it. Thanks a lot, Crate & Barrel salesperson, for not telling me. And to think you really didn’t help me much at all, but I made sure you got credited for the sale.

Sigh.

I even tried to get her to say if they’d be going on sale. She wouldn’t. And didn’t offer any kind of deal even though I spent mega-bucks.

Oh well. Too late now. But I’ll never pay full price there again. And forget giving someone credit when they don’t help me.

Okay. Grumbling over. Now for some food … I haven’t eaten yet today and it’s now 1:15. Does this mean maybe I’ll lose a bit of weight? Doubtful ….

Yay!

Just heard Dr. Nancy Schneiderman say that coffee is just fine for me … well … unless I suffer from insomnia. (But hey, I won’t drink it in the afternoon, surely it’ll be out of my system by then evening?!) She also said diet drinks are NOT good for you and can sabotage you. Hmmm. Interesting. She said that we should eat things that require time to eat — chewing is good for us — and that fast foods are designed to be gulped down with very little chewing.

So since she spoke to my addiction (I ♥ my latté!) and my non-addiction (I hate diet drinks!) I’m choosing to believe what she says. And I simply don’t “do” fast food at all.

Now I can feel pretty darn proud of myself, eh?

Oh. Except pride isn’t good, right?

Uh-oh.

Mom!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM!

I ♥ YOU

Was it a Bike Party?

Last month, when Dan was out of town but the boys were home, I woke up sometime around midnight or later. There was a ton of screaming outside. LOTS of noise. And it went on for a rather long time. I thought it was the people who live across the street; they have kids that are just out of college (I think), and they’ve been known to have late night somewhat noisy parties. But it had never been this bad before. The noise when on for quite a while, and I was pretty angry, but without Dan here I wasn’t about to go over and ask them to be quiet. (I’m wimpy that way.) Heck, even if Dan had been home I wouldn’t have gone out. (But I would have asked him if he would!)

Only a week or two later did I mention the noise to the boys. I hadn’t realized they went outside to see what it was all about. It was not our neighbors, but a huge number of bicyclists going down the street. When I heard that I was angrier than I had been before; I think bicycling is great, and of course have cyclists in the family. I support them. But when they behave horribly, wake me from sleep, yell and scream (and I’m not talking little screams, I’m talking incredibly wild and loud), I’m furious. And they wonder why some non-bicyclists get annoyed? Hmmm.

Now I have been given the address to the San José Bike Party. Gee. Was it THIS group? If so, someone should really get after them for that kind of behavior. I’m hoping it wasn’t them … but maybe now that I’ve linked to them they’ll read this and get back to me. I’d love to be assured that they haven’t go down my street. Or get an apology. Something, anyway.

Yeah, I’m that silly and petty.

Next time I’ll call the cops. And quickly. No one should be allowed to behave that way.

Okay. I’m done ranting now.

Ah-hah!

Oops! The reason sitemeter said I had no visitors was that I never updated the code when I changed the theme. So I probably have been getting at least one or two visits per week. How ’bout that?

So now I’ll have to ponder some more; to keep this blog or not? I dunno.

Get Out That Baby Picture!

Okay … since I’ve not nixed this blog (because Dan implied that he does read it on occasion), here’s this news for you:

Hundreds of wallets were planted on the streets of Edinburgh by psychologists last year. One of four photographs was inserted behind a clear plastic window in each of the wallets, showing either a smiling baby, a cute puppy, a happy family or a contented elderly couple. Some wallets had no image and some had charity papers inside.

When faced with the photograph of the baby people were far more likely to send the wallet back, the study found. The baby photograph wallets had the highest return rate, with 88 percent being sent back. Next came the puppy, the family and the elderly couple, with 53, 48 and 28 percent respectively. At 20 and 15 percent, the charity card and control wallets had the lowest return rates.

So put a picture of a baby … any baby! … in your wallet. Maybe next to a cute puppy! :-)

Time to Say Goodbye

I had no visitors to this site last week. Not one. So it is time to say goodbye. I will have to figure out how to save all the recipes and make sure I have the poetry elsewhere, but this little spot of mine will no longer be updated.

Just so’s ya knows!

Yeah. Right.

I just received two emails from NOT from B of A. One said my statement was ready and to click on the link, the other was verifying I had changed my email address. Um. Right. I guess I’ll just click on those links and quickly give them all of my personal information including my passwords. Because I’m just that stupid!

In other words, I won’t do this, and I’m posting this info just to warn everyone out there about this. But the thing is, I get all of 6 readers a week. So this blog may be saying “bye bye” really soon. I simply don’t put much up here, and the oboe blog takes up a ton ‘o time. First I’ll have to figure out what to do with the recipes and things here though. (I’m guessing my kids don’t use those anyway …??)

Need a Wedding or Portrait Photographer?

I continue to enjoy the photos of Kelsey and Mel’s wedding, taken by Katy Regnier. She has a wonderful blog too, which right now has some awfully cute babies at the top of the page. (She has twins of her own that are there too, and are incredibly adorable.)

If you live in California (Katy is in SoCal) and need a photographer, I cannot recommend her enough. She does great work. Just check out her site. And right now she has a giveaway contest, too. But it ends Monday, so you have to hop on it pronto!

I like to brag about Dan’s work, but I also want to brag about Katy. Because I think she is absolutely incredible!

(This is a double post, seen both here and at oboeinsight. But you knew that, right?)
