Today’s college students are more narcissistic and self-centered than their predecessors, according to a comprehensive new study by five psychologists who worry that the trend could be harmful to personal relationships and American society.
I heard about this yesterday, and you can read about it online. My reaction? “Well, duh!”
But not only that.
I think everyone is more narcissistic and self-centered than in the past. I don’t believe it’s just the college students. I see it everywhere. Heck, I see it in myself. We’ve all been told “You’re worth it,” so many times. We’ve all been told, “You deserve the best.” We’ve also been told (and it’s been demonstrated by so many) “It’s not my fault!”
So whatever.
Everyone is more narcissistic. That’s what I say.
… and don’t you dare argue with me because you might hurt my feelings and destroy my self-esteem.

So I hear that some people see the “Virgin Mary” in a pizza pan?
Me? I see a pizza pan with this little thing in the middle … sort of like how my cookie sheets start to look when they get a little old and misshapen. That’s all.
You?
And about that “virgin” part. Well, yes, I really do believe in teh virgin birth. But I also believe Mary had children after Jesus. And for those there was an earthly daddy. So can we just drop the “virgin” then?
I know, I know, Catholics will disagree with me. Or so I’ve been told. Ah well.
The two young moms next to me are now reading “Pediatric Accupuncture”. They are also discussing being sure not to project on your baby that she is sick.
Yeah. Okay. Whatever.

“It’s good to hang your baby upside down for a minute every day.”
Overheard at the coffee shop just now.

“Sometimes,” his mother said, in response to my glance, “he prefers to be alone.”
Good article on being an introvert. Maybe some people will start to understand. Maybe not.
I sure do.

I’ve been really bad about keeping up with this blog.
There’s just not much to say about me and there’s a lot to say about oboe.
I’m boring. Oboe isn’t.
Bizarre, don’t you think?

You know what I like most about two chicken dishes I make?
No, you don’t know. (You might think you do, but I’ll bet you don’t. If you do know just act surprised anyway, okay?)
I like the soup that follows.
I take whatever is left over and turn it into a soup that is just great (if you ask humble OLD me!). I usually add corn. Sometimes I add another can of cream of mushroom soup. Sometimes I add something else. You never know!
But in any case, it all makes me very happy.
Tonight I am happy. It is Last Flight of the Bird Soup night. And … well … yum! Add some fresh bread and a lovely glass of white wine, and you have a perfect dinner for moi.
So there you go.

There’s a movie that comes out on Sunday (of course I have work) called Amazing Grace. It’s the story of William Wilberforce, and of course includes the hymn Amazing Grace, along with the writer of the hymn, John Newton, played by Albert Finney.
AND I just read this about the actor, Ioan Gruffudd, playing Wilberforce: He played the oboe in the South Glamorgan Youth Orchestra for several years.
Hah … well there you go! A former oboist playing a lead in a movie? I really should see it … yes?
Of course it could also be a total failure as a film. I’ll only know, though, if I go see it. Right?

I have done absolutely nothing of value today. At all. Period.
(I will teach later today, so I guess that redeems the day a bit … but not much.)
I guess a NothingDay™ is occasionally okay, but I’m feeling so darn lazy it’s pathetic.
Update
Whew! I made dinner. I reconciled all of our accounts. And I had forgotten that earlier I did pay bills and take out all the recycling.
Can you tell I’m trying to rid myself of guilt? :-)

According to Dan’s photography site I’m totally lazy.
Today I had a recording session until 1:30. I teach two students. I have Camelot. Yesterday I had opera, a student and Camelot. I’ve recently added yard work to my Wednesday calendar (although I had to skip this week due to opera). I try to keep the house clean.
But I’m lazy.
All because of camera issues. Go figure. ;-)
