Fun!

I survived for 32 seconds on about the sixth try. Try it!

Is It Wrong Of Me? …

… to suggest that I’m not necessarily that into bringing back Kirk? I mean … yeah, it was lame the way he died, but, well, a lot folks die in pretty lame ways. So there ya go.

In other, much more important news, I just had a most wonderful dinner. Cooked by my very own brother, Greg. (Not to be confused with my very own brother Timothy, btw.) Man, that was so good that I hesitate inviting them over here to eat because … well … because how can I compete. I ask you? I do have Dan the Man (a great chef, to be sure) to help me, but he has work all day and can’t spend as much time at the stove. But I’m gonna call anyway, and see if the German contingent (that’s Greg & Jan … hah! I first typed “Great & Jan”!) want to come over. Along with any other interested clan members. Yes, indeed, I shall call.

Once I get the energy to pick up the phone.

I does take a while, sometimes. That energy thing can be a problem, you know? Especially after such a fabulous meal!

Trying to Be Better

I don’t know if I’ll manage, but I’m attempting to get to the club at least three times, and preferably four, a week. I can do it, I know, because I can fit it in and get back home to pick up teaching stuff before going off to SCU on Wednesdays. I could even go in on Tuesdays before UCSC, but I don’t want go back home, and I feel uncomfortable leaving my instruments in a cold trunk for the hour and a half I’d be in the building. Besides, Tuesdays have become “my time” mornings. I like that.

So yesterday I went, like a good girl. AND I did weights, like an even better girl. And I’m sore today (again). But I will survive. I was still hurting from the weights I did last Thursday, if you can believe that! My, but skipping weights for about half a year has set me back.

Last weekend I managed to wash my little headphones (the type that fits in your ear) because I had put them in my gym pants pocket. I tried using them with the iBook, though, and they still worked. Whew. So when I got on the treadmill yesterday I plugged them in. YIKES! I got the most awful shock in my left ear. I thought that was pretty darn weird, and figured maybe I hadn’t pushed the plug in enough (you can tell I’m pretty stupid about these things, yes?). YIKES again! Another strong shock. In my ear. Now isn’t that just too bizarre? So I exercised without watching anything to pass the time, which was fine … I don’t need the tube to keep me going, after all. But I guess those earphones are shot. I’m not sure, though, why they would give me a shock like that.

So the goal: Weights on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Cardio machines on Thursday. We’ll see if I can manage this!

In Other News: I’m at Coffeetopia, and the coffee didn’t sit well with me. Perhaps it’s time to give up on coffee all together, as I’m finding this to be more and more the case. A simply cup of hot water would suffice, to be honest.

I’m cold, sitting here. Meanwhile tons of younger women come in with bare midriffs. They don’t appear to be cold at all. I envy them their warmth, but not their bare midriffs, thank you very much! Ouch. My age is showing.

Note To Self: Never leave your oboe home, even if you think you won’t be using it on campus. Sigh. (Read this blog if you don’t know why.)

It Worked!

Earlier today I had put a few pieces of mail into a larger envelope for Kelsey; we still get quite a bit here that needs to be sent down south. I sealed the envelope so of course another bit of mail arrived today. I remembered reading something about how to unseal a sealed envelope and I gave it a go. Ta-da! It worked. I realize that an envelope isn’t all that expensive, but it just seemed so darn wasteful to have to open it up and toss the envelope. Call me silly.

So all you have to do is iron the envelope under medium heat (no steam). Voila! The envelope opened easily, and after putting in the new piece of mail, it also sealed up just fine. Cool eh?

This news is brought to you by “it’s my day off and I’m loving it patty”. (But I have managed to get some housework done, and isn’t that just grand?!)

Well yes …

I am alive. And well. And not so busy I can’t blog here. It’s just that the oboe site is so much easier to work with; I KNOW I can always yak about music. Yakking about my little life just seems … well … unimportant. You know?

But anyway, Dan and I are watching the news. A short time ago they had a segment on Christians and dieting. I don’t ever go into the Christian junk … um … I mean book store, so I hadn’t realized this was a new trend. But now I hear that there’s a book out called “What Would Jesus Eat?” on the shelves. Ah yes.

Sigh.

There are other books as well. And groups. Lots of groups, I suspect. And they showed a man (who, I think, wrote the WWJE book but I’m not sure). He looked like quite the wealthy man. Just like Jesus? (Okay, sorry about that … that was a bit too harsh. And maybe he’s a poor guy who dressed up in hip clothes for the TV segment, eh?) Oh … and then they interviewed one woman who said something about deciding to go to God for her strength rather than Lay’s Potato Chips.

I don’t think I’ll say any more on that one.

But this whole “What would Jesus do” or eat or say or drive … well … it honestly doesn’t work for me. But I did laugh and say to Dan that I think some couples may end up moving into separate bedrooms if they look at each other some night and say “What would Jesus do.”

Sorry. I can’t help myself.

Now you know why it’s probably best if I don’t post at this site! ;-)

But in other news Jameson has landed one of the lead roles in the musical “Frog & Toad” and that’s pretty cool! He was a donkey at the beginning of the year (Nick Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream), and will be a toad toward the end. Hmmm. Does this mean anything? You tell me.

Sigh

Dan is in Seattle. He is getting to see Brandon.

I’m here at home. I am not getting to see Brandon.

So boo hoo for me. :-(

(But Jameson and I are having a good time here at home. So there!)

And Still More

More weather, that is. It seems that the rain simply doesn’t want to stop! We aren’t having the wind we had yesterday (and no power outage, thank goodness!), but it’s been raining all day here. Dan was planning on a hike, but he’s still (stuck) here. Jameson and I were going to shop, but going out in this weather isn’t all that fun, and so far he’s not suggested we leave. (I’ll go if he asks … it’s his last day of freedom, after all.)

Last night we saw Walk the Line which I enjoyed, although I was having a bit of tummy trouble. I think I’ve got a wee bit of a bug. Nothing big, but enough to slow me down a bit. Fortunately I don’t start symphony or anything this week — I do have students, but that’s at home and I can handle it.

I did miss church yesterday. Between the long drive the day before, my not feeling all that perfect, and the crazy weather, I thought it best to stick around home.

Kelsey has now reported that they are dealing with a ton of wind and rain. She said she’s not seen anything like this before.

How “bout That?

The 49ers just won a game.

Will wonders never cease?

Thus ends football season. (For me, anyway; I don’t really get into the superbowl when the 9ers aren’t involved.)

So now I wait for April 3. You don’t have to guess why, do you?

Just a Pawn

An Inner Black Pawn

You scored 1 Power-Finesse, 2 Leader-Follower, 4 Unique-Ordinary, and 0 Offense-Defense!

You are a believer in your cause, so you try to help your black brothers fight off the oppression of the whiteys. Your role is more supportive of the big guys on your team as they do the cool stuff, but at least you aren’t just cannon fodder like the Outer Pawns. You have to react to a situation since white gets the first move, but you are the constant thorn in White’s side. White is going to try to kick your ass quick, but fortuantely if your King knows what he’s doing, someone’s got your back. You like your contribution to be supporting the big picture, even if it means you take one for the team.

My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

2006

So it’s here. The New Year. No big deal, really … but I do have to remember to write 2006 on things, and I should start organizing the 2005 tax stuff—pulling 2005 out of the file so I can use it for this year’s stuff. Fun, fun, fun!

At the moment we are having some weather. Kind of nice, really, since we rarely get weather around here. Not great fun for some (saw pictures of flooding at my sister-in-law’s site) though. Looking through our skylight our jacaranda tree is certainly getting the wind treatment. Now I can be very glad I had some guys come out and cut back a lot of our trees. Whew. I just hope we don’t lose power. With this wind it wouldn’t be surprising.

I’m still recovering from the long drives. I love taking Kelsey to and from Irvine, but when I get home I’m a bit of a zombie for a time. (And I must to get my act together because this house sure needs my attention!) I experienced incredibly high winds on the drive home yesterday, and I suppose that explains the rotten mileage too (33 mpg, compared to near 40 on the way down).

Gee … this is a bit of a silly ramble, is it not?

Anyhoo …
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
