***It All Comes Down to This

The Giants have to win.

Isn’t that simple?

I think so.

Imagining Usually Doesn’t Get the Work Done

… although it can be a start.

But I enjoyed the article about John Lennon’s song Imagine.

The real problem with “Imagine” is its woolly politics. Ostensibly a protest song about religious hatred, nationalism, materialism, famine and war, it actually opts out from dealing with them. Just imagine they’re not there and we’ll all feel better, it suggests.

Did you know that an “imagine sneaker” is coming out. Hmmm. Doesn’t work for me. Does it work for you? I guess it works for Ono.

Sneakers are often all about image, though, so maybe I shouldn’t be surprised? There is a connection … no?

The song itself, as the article says, isn’t exactly something that changes the world. To imagine something can be a beginning of change, but I can sit here and imagine and end to hunger for hours and during that time there will be people dying of starvation. (Heck, I try to imagine the house getting cleaned … I can do that for a good length of time! … and somehow it doesn’t get done. I’ve tried it for the yard too. Nope. Still a mess.)

Lennon himself said the song was “sugar-coated”. Oh … and it’s interesting to read that Phil Spector added the sugar. Yes. Phil Spector, the one who has been accused of murder. Hmmm. Is he guilty? I don’t know. I imagine he’s thinking he’s not.

So anyway, I did enjoy reading the article. I suppose some might get annoyed. After all, it’s only a song.

But enough silliness from me. It’s time to get the house cleaning and leave my imagining for a later time.

***At Least I Went

I have missed AVAC for four days. Too long, really. But today I finally got back there.

Sigh.

I had no energy. Zilch. Nada. Niente.

I managed to do two machines for 20 minutes each, so I guess that counts for something, but I couldn’t move on to the weights. I was far too tired by then. After the exercise even washing my hair took such effort I knew I was beat for the day.

And to think I still have a student and a 3 1/2 hour opera to play! Yikes!

***Nice to see Mom, Dad & Carolyn at the opera today!

It’s always fun to know that someone you know is out in the audience. Of course it also makes me just slightly more nervous too, but that’s okay by me; I’m used to nerves. I no longer get shaky. And I no longer cry over mistakes.

I’m not a brain surgeon, and that’s good news too!

But anyhoo, thanks for coming! I appreciate your willingness to sit for THREE AND ONE HALF HOURS to listen to this opera.

But isn’t the hall beautiful? Yep!

***GO GIANTS!

They did it today! What a good game … and a great outcome! We are only 1 1/2 games behind the Dodgers and 1/2 game behind the Cubs.

It’s not over yet!

***Something I Really Hate

Opening up a sealed box of crackers and finding that it has been blessed with little bugs.

Ugh.

***They Couldn’t Do It

The Giants couldn’t win last night. This puts them back 2.5 games in the Division. Ah well. There’s still hope.

***Dan Is Out
and about … took off early this morning for a jaunt up to Yosemite for the weekend. I’m guessing he’ll take a bunch of pictures.

Meanwhile I’ll attempt the help the Giants win today (they are on at about 1:00 I think) and then I have opera. It will be nice to play without being ill!

***GO GIANTS!

It’s 2-0, Giants. Barry and Yorvit hit home runs. But it’s only the end of the first inning. So now we have to hold on.

Aw. LA just hit a home run. It’s 2-2. :-(

Wait. The bad guys hit another. It’s 2-3.

***C’mon Giants. You can do it!

***No Money in the Mail Today

Nope. Nothing there.

I just went outside to get the mail. When I do this I often think, “I wonder if there’s any money in the mail today.”

And there wasn’t. Again.

I don’t know why I wonder if there is money there. But I do. It’s a silly thing to think, I know. But there you go.

I’ll probably wonder if there’s money in the mail tomorrow, too.

***Sounds like Kelsey is settling in nicely
and it’s good to hear that she is earning a bit of spending money also! I’m sure having a job will be good for her. (But, Kelsey, don’t OVER work! You need free time, yes?)

I’ve also heard from two oboe students who are now at UCI. One I only taught for three lessons in order to prepare her for the UCI orchestra audition, and then there’s Caitlyn. I’ve had Caitlyn since she began, so having her leave was difficult. But I’m happy to hear that they are both enjoying the UCI experience so far!

I’m looking forward to going back to visit Kelsey, as well as Caitlyn, and then hearing the orchestra … and maybe catch a play or musical this year. We’ll have to see what works with my schedule.

… but, mostly, I just want to know what the fine is for going 205 mph.

(How stupid can motorcyclists get, anyway?)
